sprout coffee packaging
Project type
Packaging, Branding + 3D Brand Experience
Date
February 2026
Location
Grand Valley State University
Role
Designer
This project explores a circular label system for Sprout, a sustainably grown, fair-trade coffee brand, as an extension and refinement of a previously developed brand identity. The concept was ideated specifically for this project, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, material choice, and real-world execution. Rather than applying the labels to a standard cylindrical container, I chose quart-sized metal paint cans as a reusable packaging solution to reinforce the brand’s environmental values and encourage reuse beyond the initial purchase.
The project involved the complete design and production process. All labels were professionally printed, carefully adhered to the containers, and applied to the metal cans to ensure accuracy and durability. Physical prototypes were then professionally photographed and edited to showcase the packaging in a realistic, retail-ready context. This hands-on approach allowed me to evaluate scale, legibility, and material interaction while maintaining consistency across the three roast variations, light, medium, and dark.
By combining concept development, material experimentation, physical production, and final photography, this project translates Sprout’s sustainable brand values into a cohesive three-dimensional packaging experience that feels intentional, functional, and shelf-ready.
